Listening Sessions: Centralizing Black Students’ Voices During UF’s Crisis Response to COVID-19 and the BLM Movement

April 14 @ 7:00 pm - May 7 @ 8:30 pm

Black students are disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and are experiencing ongoing collective trauma associated with nationwide incidents of police brutality and the effects of systemic racism (Galovski et al., 2016; Garg et al., 2020; Giliford, 2020). These experiences are taking an incalculable toll on Black students’ physical and mental health (Carter, 2007).

The purpose of the project is to (1) assess perceptions of student support provided by the University of Florida (UF) during COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement, (2) gauge the role of community nonprofits in helping support Black students, and (3) identify solutions to support UF’s Black students during crisis.
